Question Suggestions on Scanner and Printer

Hello everyone, I just joined. I have been trying to get this project of mine running and im stuck on what to get for a good quality and good price. I'm stuck on what scanner to get, I was reading about getting the "Epson 1400" as a printer but my pictures/photos i will be will be sketches so I need to find a Scanner that goes great with "Sketching Shades" and also works with Adobe Photo Shop CS2. If you don't understand what i mean please ask and I will describe the sitiuation better.
I would glady appreciate it if any of you know a great scanner for what im looking for and or Scanner/Printer. Thank you for you time.

-Alex

Hello, Microtek makes some pretty awesome scanners for a "cheap"price
but then again so does Visioneer...the trick is with the resolution and being able to scan in greys...if your computer can handle the resolution you should have no problems... I've never liked printer/scanner combos being that if one fails you gotta throw the whole thing out, but the again you need a printer that can read postscript if your gonna do gradients or the Fast rip[ program for epson printers.
It may seem that a higher resolution printer is better, but on t-shirts resolution is usually ok at 300 dpi

I need advice on purchasing a scanner which will scan at least 10 X 10 inch of my pen and ink designs which I will upload with open source software (inkscape or gimp) to cafe press. What is the best and cheapest large scale scanner ?
I have a powerbook G4 Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.11 OS with an HP All-in One printer.
Please help me find an inexpensive large scale printer to upload my pen and ink designs.
I gave my large scale printer to my daughter when she went to college and now I need one again.

I do not do computer graphics. I am a purist. An Andy Warhol groupie.....I want to try to preserve the old ways. Of course, I have had to change somewhat...but one day I hope to go back completely to the old way of silk screening......in the meantime, instead of the dark room, I need a cheap large scale scanner.

Can anyone help me?

I love this site.

Alida

That's a toughy...try Tiger direct cheapest "good" periferals I've found...
but there is really not a "cheap" 11 x17 scanner
unless $2000.00 is in your range
Scanstore.com has one for around $1250.00
But I've never really found ANYTHING for us poor folk

There has GOT to be a printer or scanner which can do simple 10 x 10 scans...SOMEWHERE.

Anyone else?

I guess the only thing left for me to do is to go to my screen printer who has the equipment and pay them to put my design on disc each time I do a new design.

It's the only alternative I have. I can't afford a $2000. scanner at the time being.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

I'm in the same boat.
If I had a large format scanner and printer to make positives, I would be in business, otherwise I am at the mercy of computer geeks to do my raster to vector and then go beg a t-shirt shop with a set-up to print a positive from my file
or spend the remainder of my life learning Illustrator or Corel

reminds me of the bumper sticker "drum machines have no soul"

some of the "perfect graphic art " we see daily is nice but has no soul when it is Klip-Ahrt generated mostly by machine

sort of like "Musak", instead It's "Ahrt"

step one, I need the right printer and clear stock to make positives
but have not a clue what to get
so I'm still in dry dock

I am just very very lucky...my screen printer is trying to do everything he can to get my illustrations in the format to do cafepress, even though it means his company isn't getting the business.

I told him I would just pay him to get my illustrations on disc format to upload to cafepress.

Ya know, in this business, you make friends who will help you sell you art.......

At least I have.

I can't find an affordable large format scanner except on ebay....and it only works with Mac 8 or Classic.

There is nothing out there for we artists which are affordable scanners anymore.

Everything is geared for graphic artists and that's the way it is.

Andy Warhol is turning over in his grave.

But I will prevail.

I will put my own hand drawn designs on my website, come hell or high water.

And that's the way it is.

I am lucky to have friends in the industry who know my artwork and are willing to help me sell it.

Thank god for my friends with the equipment and software I cannot afford.

I thank God I have people who believe in my talent for original hand drawn illustrations.

Without them, I would be totally out of business.

I love the t-shirt industry....we are artists, not just marketers....and people help eachother.

Long live the artists, who help one another, unlike many other industries.

We are not that competitive, but want one another's work to be available to the public.

Viva graphic designers and original workers who don't want all the computer graphics to take over.

I love Andy Warhol.

Just be prepared to pay about $2000.00 for a large format scanner for your art.

Everyone almost is using computer graphics...if that is all you use, you don't need the large format scanner....but if you do any original hand drawn work, be prepared to shell out $2000.00 for a darn scanner.

The t-shirt business has turned into nothing but computer graphics and it's damn sad.
Original hand drawn art is gone unless you can afford the new scanners.

Check out ebay...they do have some scanner which work with mac computers, but they only run in 08 or 09 classic mode.

I am sorry, but I am not a computer graphic designer...my art is original by my own hand and trying to get it transfered to fabric is a very difficult road.
