Default Shirt/Chest Center

Hello all.
was wondering if there was a general rule of thumb as to where the chest center would be across all the sizes, if the design is an average horizontal type image (text or otherwise)
Is the center generally at armpit level?
and if the design is more illustrative and circular, is there a distance from the neckline that is standard?

thanks so much

As a general rule of thumb (and depending on the image and overall image size) I would usually position the top of the graphic 3-4 inches from the bottom of the collar seam. I would also usually place it more toward 4" than 3" but it varied.

cool. thanks corradomatt
wouldn't it kind of be a sliding scale though?
like 4 inches from seam works on mediums, but on XL or XXL we're talking more of 6-8 inches (made up those numbers)

that's kind of what I was looking for was a chart or illustration, per se, of the targeted design "center" across the run of all the sizes.

Your absolutely right. I think that for XL and XXL we would use the bottom of the armpit rule. Most the time I would print the logo somewhere around the bottom of the armpit with decent results. If it was text we would try and place the bottom of the text just above the bottom seam of the armpit.

For crew neck tees, we put top of design 3 inches below the neck seam center for designs more than 6 inches tall. For text or designs less than 6 inches tall, we start the top of design at 4 inches down. We generally don't change this for shirts from small to XL. For 2XL and greater, we move down a little more than the guideline.

Watch out for scoop necks on some women's garments. They are much lower than std. crew neck tees. We generally place 1/2 an inch higher for items we know are for women. Too low on a woman's tee can become pretty tacky.
