Default how to make text CLEAR or TRANSPARENT when placed above a picture

Anyone know how to make text CLEAR or TRANSPARENT when placed above a picture in CORELDRAW? Is it even possible?

In other words...lets say I've got a Smiley face and I want to put the word "hello" on it. I want the "hello" to essentially be "cut out" of the smiley face so that the color of the garment is what provides the font color for "hello" when the artwork is screen printed.

Any help is appreciated.

If I'm understanding what you're trying to do correctly, you basically want to do this: Threadless T-Shirts - Stupid Raisins, Stay Out Of My Cookies by Ross Sharkey

In which case, all you'd need to do is write the text over the top in the same colour as the shirt (background colour of the image). When the separations are printed, there'll be nothing there = nothing printed.

...although it occurs to me my answer depends on how the printer is doing the separations. It's the easiest way to do it in software, and it works fine if it's a flat photoshop image, or a vector file being automatically separated in software, etc. - but if the printer is manually separating a vector, what's underneath may come back into play again.

in the example you gave of the smiley....select both the text and the part of the smiley you want the text to appear in (the circle) and use the combine function. this assumes both the face and the text are vector images....

If you don't already have to print seperations you can simply change the text color to white and your print will have the text "cut out" of the smiley face.
