I'm trying to get a gray scale photo designed into a shirt, but i cant make the halftones good enough. i want it to actually look like the photo, minus the dots. is this possible with screen printing? or are there any other options that can do what i want? its a gray scale picture, but I'm adding some colors to it (1-2 colors, maybe 3 tops). I was thinking DTG, but im not sure if even that could give me the results i want? any suggestions?

The halftones can be outputted by the printer, you don't need to design them yourself.

Yes and no. Yes it will look like the photo and not dotty, no if you look closely you will see the dots.

It depends on which printer you use, and you'll have an easier time of it if you want to print on light shirts (or even white), but yes, it's certainly a possibility.
