I need help please... all my designs get denied by screen printers
Ok I've been saving up a hand full of designs for the last 4 months or so. We've been using FLASH and drawing it on a drawing pad connected to the computer. The screen printers keep telling us that the colors on FLASH are meant for websites not printing. Can someone help me convert these or figure out which way to go about it. Its really annoying we have the designs just cant get them printed.
Re: I need help please... all my designs get denied by screen printers
try taking these into photoshop and coverting them to jpegs or tiffs. The resolution will probably be only 72 pixels per inch so they could not be used as rtwork for screening.

ya thats seomthing we've tried... but as you stated the quality was too low and therefore unusable
Re: I need help please... all my designs get denied by screen printers
Convert them and then look at using a program like On One Graphics to blow them up to a higher resolution. You also might want to look at getting your graphic printed by a dtg printer - which has a wider range of graphics that can be printed verses and average screen printer. The low res graphic is a result of using Flash (a program that excels for the web, but not so much for printing on to anything) as your graphic program. You might want to look at using a different graphic program if that is something that is available to you. Best of luck.
Re: I need help please... all my designs get denied by screen printers
flash is vector. try to export and open with illustrator or some vector program. Increase the size/resolution and export from there.
the resolution is probably the main problem. But since we can't see the the design that you are trying to print, I can't tell you any further about the possible problems with the separations.
can you put up a small proof of one of the designs to see what might be needed.

hello,
Maybe this will help but in the end it only gets you half way...
go into flash under file-publish settings-check jpeg then it will give you a jpeg tab at the top of the box. go in there and set your settings to 100%. click OK and the go to file-export - export image - save to a what ever file name you want- then there will be a settings box you can bump up the dpi to 300 or what ever you want.
there are also setting to send the file from photoshop as layers and so on under- EDIT-Preferences- psd file importer.
But to be honest you really should be in Illustrator, corel or photoshop to get the job done. Iv been a designer for a very long time and I never was asked from a print house, screen printer and so for a flash file to work from...
Re: I need help please... all my designs get denied by screen printers
The only thing I can think of is the Gradient fills on the chain are not that smooth.
try to do cell shading or coloring to get the effect your after. the design looks good but it all comes down to spot colors that the print house is after and flash to the best of my Knowledge is not the right tool for this.
that design could be replicated in any of the programs I said above. PS,ILL, Corel all do Color Separations for this...

Re: I need help please... all my designs get denied by screen printers
have you asked the one screen printer or multiple.
all screen printers i have used would not find it hard to separate that job for print in the format you have supplied above (even at that resolution) - as long as you supply PMS colours for them to match the shades of yellow to.
i assume you would like the design printed around the neck like a necklace. this may turn off some printers as it is a bit tricker to print in that location.
Re: I need help please... all my designs get denied by screen printers
hey fred, where do you get 5 colors? I only see 4. (not knocking you, i just like seeing how many colors something takes and that's all i could figure)
light gold, gold, dark gold, black. underbase would make 5 if on darks
looks good, the shading on the chain is cool, it's not supposed to be a gradient, which will make it much easier to print.
Re: I need help please... all my designs get denied by screen printers
There is a total of 4 colors.
I did want it on the neckline but that hasnt turned off my screen printers.
It seems like it would be simple enough. The screen printers I use are more local and people I know so it seems like they dont put much time into attempting to get my designs "print ready".

maybe i give away free art time, but it's rare that i don't have to tweak customer art to get it how "i want" to print right, but still look like how they sent it to me.
you should still look into another program, i highly recommend corel draw x3

That's crazy. Some of the stuff I get here I have to tell you I would be elated to get that job. Seriously man, I have people that send me 50x50 gif files that they ripped from their websites, and when I ask them to provide me with a vector file, such as an .eps, they simply change the file extension from .gif to .eps and send it back to me. I'm working on something now, the client art has realistic flames, ice sickles, and realistic metal textures. it's like a photoshop special effects bonanza. Fine if you are only executing it on a website, but I have to find a way to execute this as a 2 color screen print.....
:-|
What you have here isn;t bad at all. If you provided a jpeg I'd most likely have to redraw it, but we would get it done. It's hard to believe you are getting such a hard time about this.
If you provided a vector file that I could open in illustrator I would have no problem at all with this regardless of what color space it was set up with, and we only print spot, very rarely do we do process. The key for me, as the "art guy" here, is always "is it vector art". If it isn't then I redraw.
I should also note that I am relatively new at this. I've been using illustrator for 6 or 7 years but have only been in screen printing just over a year. So, I am proficient with illustrator and photoshop - but my bosses are not. Their philosophy is generally "this is a client, client means money -- jimmy will work his magic, just send it over, we will make it work". So that may explain some of my optimism here.
What type of file are you providing them with? I can't seem to remember if flash has an option to output .eps files?
I also have to ask, why are you using flash for this in the first place? Your art looks pretty nice, you obviously have skill. Why not work in illustrator? You should learn it, if cost is an issue you should look into inkscape, it is a free vector drawing program and is extremely capable.
