I had read somewhere regarding a form of copyright, I'm sure there is more to it, but it said you can put the little "c" in the circle on your designs at no cost and it serves as a form of copyright. Can anyone confirm this.

In the US this advice is obsolete to the tune of about twenty years, and in the rest of the world even longer.
Copyright is automatic from the moment the work is fixed in a tangible form. You don't need a notice on your work, and it doesn't help you. It doesn't prove anything, and it doesn't state intent (as a TM would) since you can assume anything is copyrighted by default.
The US requires registration in order to sue for damages, and so far as I know there's no way around that.
