Default Vector designs

Hi!

I'm looking for a software (mac) to convert pixels graphics in vector graphics. At the moment I am using Inkscape but I am not really happy of the result.

Thanks for your help.

Personally, I'd recommend taking a look at the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator. It has a good tool for converting rasters to vector, but there's no really great way to do that short of manually drawing the outlines yourself if you want good, clean vectors that can be scaled up a lot without showing all of the little imperfections that invariably happen with automatic conversion.

I use Corel X3-considerably cheaper than Adobe and does a great job as long as you have a high quality jpeg or tif. Check out academicsuperstore.com if you are looking to buy programs!!!

In this case I'd have to say Illustrator...Unfortunately CorelDRAW isn't available for Macs (as far as I'm aware).

I know! Buy a PC!

Your right, I missed that (mac) in there. Macs are good, it all depends on what your used to. I am used to PC.

there's been a lot of discussion about vector magic lately. i haven't used it, but maybe you should check it out as a possible option.

It works pretty well, and best of all, it's free. If I didn't have Corel, I would use the ever-living-stinkin'-wizz out of it.

CorelDRAW has been available for Macs since version 6 and is much less complicated to learn to use than illustrator.

for vector conversion in ANY program... most of the automated programs (ie: trace)... dont work very well unless the image is HUGE and CLEAN already. the "clean up" time is so immense... you might as well have built it from scratch.

Flexi has a fairly nice colortrace built in. Works for most anything worth vectorizing.

From the CorelDRAW.com forum:

Re: CorelDraw for Mac

Hey Derek, I have a new Intel Mac at work. I'm running Parallels and WIndows XP PRO. Corel X3 is working great on the PC side. I have Corel 11 on the Mac side, but don't use it anymore. X3 on PC side works waaaaay better! Very fast, no lags. Steve

The last Corel for Macs was ver 11. Corel representative told me at a recent conf. that there was no plans to bring in Corel X3 and beyond for Macs... Any corel operations after ver 11 on macs is running in emulation mode...or now with intel chip and the new OS..you can run windows programs in native format and do it well..

Wife has a Mac...much to my dismay but the new OS is awesome with windows partition...other wise...same ole stuff

i use inkscape, corel x3, & flexi sign. i also edit my images in photoshop & posterize them then vectorize.

i just bought a program called QuikSeps & it comes with a bonus program call QuikDraw. you can buy the program from the company off ebay for 1/2 of what they sell it for on there site. as soon as mine comes in i'll post up the results.
