What's The Best File for Screenprinting--From Illustrator to Freehand or Corel
Hello everyone,
I would like to know what is the best way for a screen printer to receive a file. I have learned Illustrator on my own and have some designs ready to print. I am running in to a problem with saving and/or exporting. What is the best way to take an Illustrator file and send it to a computer that has Corel Draw and/or one that has Freehand.
Do I need to expand, flatten, create outline (which looks the same as expand)
Save down to AI9, Export EPS? Help?
All advice is needed.

The first format i would try is PDF. Recent versions of corel and freehand should be able to import it. If the folks are running antique versions of corel or freehand, you would need to save at an equivalently older version of illustrator.
Be sure you convert all the text to outlines, so you don't need to worry about the fonts.

Thanks Fred,
I have created outlines and saved as PDF. I will see if this will work tomorrow.
One screen printing place said that EPS is what they like when receiving files but they use Freehand. Would creating outlines and then saving as PDF be better for the screen printer than EPS.

PDF and EPS are virtually the same thing except that PDF has a more fixed set of rules on how the postscript code needs to be formated, where EPS is a freeform format.

EPS works really well when going into Corel also. It is really up to the person at your printer who does the artwork and prepares the screens. Some people have a preference.
