[Illustrator] - How do I change the shape of the font?
i think what you are asking is how to warp your text.
you can do this by selecting your text and going to Effect>Warp
you have many options to choose from in this menu. play around with the effects until you get what you are looking for. when you have the look you want, select your text and go to Object>Expand Appearance. this will change your font to vector points. do this only after you're finishing editing your text.

The warp option confuses me. Rather than just changing the font to the shape I want, that tool just moves the font where ever I drag it. It isn't giving me the neat look I want. Is there something else?

You shouldn't be able to drap with the warp. i think you are using one of the tools on the side. Kenn is talkign about an effect from the menu.

the only way i know of to do this is go to Effect>Warp>Arc Upper or Arc Lower. for your top image (arc upper) set the bend to about -20. for the lower image, go to arc lower and set the bend to the same -20.

Kenn, thanks for that help. I came on the site looking for just this type of help. I had been getting requests for names to be arched and done other ways and I was having to hand set the effects and use heat transfer tape to hold the letters in place during the pressing.
I tried your directions for getting the warped text outputted and it worked perfectly. Thanks a bunch.
