Default Elements-how to replace color in image

Hello,
I am brand new here as of yesterday. I have been digging thru the threads to learn as much as possible.

Right now I am working on changing colors of a design to make transparencies for screen printing. There are 2 blues in the design on a black background. I checked the help and somehow made the blues shades of grey, but I really need to sepertate them into 2 layers and chang them to black and get rid of the black background.

I have been playing with this for a couple of hours before I remembered all the great info I saw on the forum and decided to "ask the experts"

Thanks in advance for any help!

Shannon Wallace

Select one of the colours (using magicwand-tool)

then go up to the menu to choose 'Layers'
then i think its >Cut via New Layer

Then you'll see by looking at the Layers Palette that a new layer has been created which should contain only the selected areas

You can also try to use the "Color select". Goto SELECT>COLOR RANGE...

There you can use an eyedropper tool to pick the color you want. Then use the slider to get more or less of it. When it is selected, hit Control-J (Command-J for MAC) and it will pop that selection to it's own layer. Then delete the background.
