I have a question. If a client came to you and wanted a custom graphic design done for a shirt but yall were not printing it in house. How much do you charge for the creative fee. Also how much would you charge if you did the printing in house as well.
Depends on how complicated the graphic is, for starters, and if they want sole copyright ownership after it's created. A graphic designer would charge about $35-50 per hour and estimate the time. I don't know how big you are or how you do biz, but I would get a contract for this one and at least half the payment up front.
The shirts usually average around 100 shirts. I was charging 35% of the bill but I was looking for another set up. I thought of making it a flat $500 or 35% of the bill depending on which is bigger. They are all high end graphics and I keep the copyrights, but I don't have the equipment yet to print my own so I have to outsource it.
I charge $175 flat fee for really simple designs. $35 - $50 per hour is added to that depending on how long it takes to please the client (read: 120 rounds of revisions)!
The flat fee usually buys you a day of designing and gets you anywhere from 3 to six starter ideas...
Like the other post says: Get a contract! It usually stipulates those terms (and payment requirements - they like to get paid for some reason) and hourly rates over and above the fee. If you keep work coming our way we will get a feel for the look/design feel and start banging them out cheaper, too.
General Spot (Creation, Separations & Film) $20.00 per color (mainly clipart type designs, school mascot t's , etc.)
Logo & Design Creation $75.00 per hour
4-color process art charge $250.00 per design
Simulated process art charge (up to 6 colors) $200.00 up to 6 colors
( 7 colors and above - call for quote)

I usualy work in Illustrator and depending on the number of the graphics needed i charge per design between 100-150 $.I also sometimes do simple text ones for 50-70 $.
What do you exactly mean with that? Are you sending over copies of artwork to the client 120 times until their satisfied?
Sorry for the graphic designer "humor." Usually clients "tweak" things many many times and that would be at an hourly rate above the predetermined amount for a specific number of designs and revisions.
