Default Illustrator CS3 versus Coreldraw X3: your take

Sorry for being so naive in this dept but what are the differences between these two choices. Is illustrator the adobe version of CorelDraw??, which one would be more beneficial to our trade as far as designs for tees, etc????. Pros and Cons???. Thanks guys

This is like which is best...ford or chev. both programs are vector base drawing program. I have both but tend to use Corel X3 most and for me it was an easier learning curve...others will disagree. One advantage you get the vector drawing program..a pretty good vectorizing program and a decent photo program.. with Illustrator...which is part of Adobe CS series, has a vectorizing program but not a photo program. Adobe has Photoshop which is also pretty pricey..

do a search here...this subject has been beat to death I think

I know people that use both....I use Illustrator. The learning curve on Corel is much easier than Illustrator. I am not sure how they compare now but Corel use to be target toward more office and basic desktop design work. Illustrator was for more high end pro level graphics. The people I know that use corel sometimes have trouble opening files that people send them. If you are teaching yourself I would go with Corel. I know a lot of people who love it and use it every day for this type of business. If you are wanting to make a carer in doing graphics and have the time to learn I would go with Illustrator. Photoshop Insider or lynda.com has great learning materials.

Corel vs Illustrator. Why choose one when you can get both for an extra $199 ? If you own a version of Coreldraw you can get the new CS3 Illustrator upgrade for $199 from the Adobe site.

This might sound abit narrow minded perhaps, but at University I personally was always discouraged against Corel. Illustrator is by far the superior program in my mind.
If you prepare artwork for screenprinting, it appears much easier to conduct accurate color seperations, and Corel graphics look abit clip-arty i reckon.

i used to think the same way about Corel, being an Adobe user.

But when you see the work produced with Corel, for example the piece Fluid just unveiled (amazing btw),its time to re think our opinions. Screenprinters.net - Last additions/Concept Pink

just my 4 cents

Ian

The best thing to do is download the demos from both sites and test them out. You'll have 30 days.
