Problems With Transfering Illustrator File To Vinyl Program!!
Problems With Transfering Illustrator File To Vinyl Program!!
Okay, my brother and I are going to be making some vinyl business signs and we've run into a problem. I have my own personal laptop with Adobe Illustrator and he has his own computer with a vinyl program called WIN PC SIGN. I made the whole sign in Illustrator and e-mailed it to my brother in EPS format, but when he tryed to trace it on his vinyl program the whole file was pixelated and looked pretty cruddy. I know it would work better if I had the sign program on my computer or if my brother had Illustrator on his computer. But, I was wondering if there was a way to transfer my Illustrator file cleanly to his computer without losing any size or look?
Re: Problems With Transfering Illustrator File To Vinyl Program!!
If you did your art work in Illustrator then your brother should not have to trace it. It should be in the vector format. I transfer my files to my cutter program (flexi 7.5) and never have to trace it.
Re: Problems With Transfering Illustrator File To Vinyl Program!!
That's what I thought too, do you think it may be because I'm e-mailing it to him? Do you think that I should try to copy it to CD and transfer it that way?
Re: Problems With Transfering Illustrator File To Vinyl Program!!
I just looked at a chart of files Win PC sign can import.
On the list was Illustrator .ai
That would be the best file to make sure you are getting a vector into the program.
You may need to convert the fonts to outlines if the same fonts are not on both computers.
Email should be fine. If you are sending it from a Mac, you might want to zip it to be safe. Make sure the file's name is PC correct and has the .ai extension at the end.

How do I convert fonts to outlines in illustrator?
Re: Problems With Transfering Illustrator File To Vinyl Program!!
Ohh, I got how I convert it but for me when I type with the VonFont and send it to my cutter I cutīs through the letters not just the outlines.
How can I get It to cut just the outlines on the letters?
Re: Problems With Transfering Illustrator File To Vinyl Program!!
What version of Illustrator are you using? If it's CS or CS2 you need to save your artwork in an older version. I save all of my .ai or .eps files in Illustrator 8.0 or 6.0. Most of the sign programs (FlexiSign, SignLab...etc.) do not recognize the newer Illustrator CS2 files. That's why you are getting the pixels. Give it a try.

Not quite sure what you mean here.
If you overlap 2 letters, then convert to outline, the cutter will trace cut each letter and will cut into the other letter where they overlap.
If you merge the letters, the cutter will trace the edge, not each letter.
