thanks Rod,
in your opinion, which one would you choose, CorelDrawX3 or Photoshop CS3. They are both running about the same price with both having promotions, CS3 having a 50% promotion which make it 299.99. I currently have photoshop elements, dont know if that would change your mind if you were in my shoes.

I'm not a designer but around here in the screen print Photoshop is not used. So a few months back when i decided to splurge i got the corel x3 and i must say its great.

i use it to crop photos and draw stuff in coreldraw.

Mind you i learned the basics very easy, thanks to fluid/richard posts and the corel site/forum-board.

get CorelX3. ...a designer newbie opinion.

I also wanted to let everyone know that amazon has coreldraw X3 about 30 bucks cheaper than with the 20 dollars off and 10% off promotion purchasing it through the corel site.

Are you comfortable with Adobe Photoshop elements? If so, that might be the way to go (adobe).

Actually, what I would do if I were in your shoes would be to go to corel.com and download a free trial of CorelDraw and then go to Adobe.com and download a free trial of Photoshop.

Use them both for a couple of days doing some tasks you would normally do and see which you prefer.

I think the CorelDraw X3 Graphics suite might be a better deal because it comes with the vector software (CorelDraw) and a raster photo editing software (PhotoPaint), whereas Photoshop only does raster/bitmap file creation.

I have both software packages on my computer and I use each one for different purposes. So I guess it also depends on what kind of graphics you want to do.

I use both, too.

I haven't played around with PhotoPaint all that much, but from what I have done, I don't really like it. I much prefer Photoshop for raster work.

But for vector work, it's CorelDRAW hands down.

If Adobe are running a promotion on Photoshop, they might be running a promotion in general: I'd see if I could get the full Creative Suite at a discount, and if so buy that (actually I could and I did ). If not, X3 is probably the way to go over just Photoshop.

thanks for your input guys, since i already have elements, Corel seems to be the way to go for vector graphics so that i can have the best of both worlds. Thanks a bunch once again.
