Dont make it too busy. Its pretty tight as is. Try a slight glow around the design, maybe in white or the light blue.

Easiest way would be to select everything, use the create boundary tool, fill with black. Add a medium default drop shadow, change to white or blue and mode to normal. Just an idea and something to fill your cauldron.

brushed aluminum would look tight yet I'm with your initial thoughts on a diamond plate texture being too busy.

Funny...I started with a brushed alum. and then went towards a more hammered look. Well its all really an exercise in learning Corel.
