Question which type of file should i take down to my local copyshop?

hi there you guys,

i just purchased adobe illustrator CS3, and i'm gonna try to create some of my own t-shirt designs.

well now, i was wondering, which file format would be best if i want a picture printed on a t-shirt (i'm not talking about square-formatted photos, rather of text and pictures with gaps and irregular shapes)...

thx a lot y'all

john

you should be fine with AI, EPS or PDF formats.

you might call ahead and check their prefered format. also it's very important to find out their prefered version (10/CS/CS2/CS3-AI examples). This will save you time in case they need the legecy versions of the file.

In Illustrator you can make those legacy through the "export" command.

I've found PDF best; I've tried giving printshops AI files, but have run into two problems: 1) They don't bother keeping up to date with their software, 2) Their computer and printer combination couldn't handle the output of large AI files. You won't have the same problems everywhere, but it's a risk.

PDF should give the same quality output, with significantly increased compatibility.
