Default Need help printing gradients from Illustrator

Does someone know how to mesh(and separate) 2 spot colors that forms a gradient with eachother? When 2 spot colors converge using a gradient, my laser(screenwriter) printer puts the halftones on top of eachother instead of fitting like a puzzle. I use round halftones, should I use a different shape? Why shouldn't my screenwriter fit it into a puzzle automatically-seems logical. My screenprinters like the lpi to be about 40. Please help!

it sounds as if you are doing it correctly. are you creating the blends using the gradient slider or with transparency?

you don't want to use transparency if you are. this will put one color on top of the other.

blend your colors using the gradient slider by dragging one spot color to one side of the slider and another spot color to the other. you can add more colors to the middle as your design needs.

round halftone dots should be fine.

If the same angle is assigned to both colours it will print them on top of each other, just not sure if that's the case here. You might want to check your screenprinter and ask him what raster settings he uses as some printers don't use the default settings.

I think thats whats going on here too. Make sure they are set to diffrent screen angles. The default process colors and angles are:
Cyan-15 degrees
Magenta-75 degrees
Yellow- 90 degrees
Black - 45 degrees
So a lot of times spot colors will default to 45 degrees unless you tell the software you are doing a "duotone".

What is the rule for an opposite angle then?

Say I did one at 25 degrees. Yellow.
I want to fade red right into the yellow, in teh gaps in the halftone. Like the "Puzzle Fit"

what should my red screen angle be?

Yeah, that's the thing. I don't know what this simple formula is, nor have I experimented with it. Process inks should be separated at 15 degrees apart, but spot-color is a bit different. Thanks for the post.

I'm using Illustrator and there is no option for duotones. I will just have to experiment with different angles if I can find the time. Thanks for posting, Camscam!
