Default Learning to Draw

I was just wondering if there were any of you professional designers that started in my boat. I reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaally want to learn how to draw. I know I have the ability because I can copy something that I have in front of me almost to exact proportions. I just have soooo many ideas that are stuck in my head that I can't get to the page or the screen for that matter.
I know a lot of people have taught themselves but I've also heard that others can be taught ways around the filters in our brains that keep people like me from interpreting to our hands.
If anyone else started this way, could you recommend a class or a dvd that you used and found success with?

The biggest help for me was taking a life drawing class. It really helped me loosen up and appreciate the process more.

View objects as the sum of their parts not as a whole. break object into simple shapes and build with the shapes. take two pices of paper. one with image to draw the other blank. take your image and turn it upside down. then draw the inverted image on the other paper. THis will help you see past the iconography...
