Default How do you use the Photoshop color removal element?

I am trying to use the Photoshop color removal element. I am using Photoshop 7. How do you use/locate this element in Photoshop 7. Here are some great examples of the ettect I am trying to achieve:

actually, what you are seeing isn't really a "color removal element".

the effect is achieved by first creating a duplicate layer above the original. once you create the new layer, go to your layer adjustments and select "hue & saturation". check the "colorize" box in the lower right corner and set everything to "0". click "ok".

select both the adjustment layer and the duplicate layer and merge them together.

now go to your duplicate layer (that should now be B&W) and use the erase tool to remove the area you want to be color. you will be revealing the color layer below. make sense?

Thank you very much. I eagerly started playing around in Photoshop right after I posted. I took the lasso tool and lassoed around the areas I wanted to be in color. I then selected inverse (to grab everything outside the areas I wanted in color), then desaturate. Then WALLA:

I'm still going to try the method you posted as well to see if that works just as well. Thanks again!

the cool thing about ps is that there always seems to be a lot of different ways to get the same result.

glad it worked out for you. the little girl in your pics is very cute. if my little girl would sit still long enough, i might get some cute pics like that of her, too!

Go to a book store and get you some Photoshop books. A fairly old one but good one is Photoshop Classic effects by Kelby. Good stuff and step by steps. Well worth the money
