Default Looking for a "light steel" or "heather gray" pattern

I'd like to give customers a better look at what the design looks like on light steel (Hane's version of heather gray effectively). Does anyone have a pattern?

The one I used from S&S does not turn into a nice pattern... it looks horrible.

Thanks!

why not scan in a shirt reduce the bitmap and create your own pattern from the scan? Just a thought. If i had one I would share.

Not a bad idea, but I'm hoping someone has one already.

But that's always a backup idea I suppose.

If I were to just use a solid gray background, how should I easily denote that it'll have an "checkered" style pattern? Any ideas?

if you can get a hold of a hanes fabric swatch book, they have a pms color match for every color t-shirt they offer...except the heather colors. it's a good tool to have, though.

try making a gray background in PS and adding a pattern overlay. maybe you can create the texture yourself.

Sadly that's what I've tried -- with horrible results.

Clients will just have to picture it in their heads. Ill see if I can create a pattern that will work as a simulated ash shirt.

I'd appreciate it. I've been unable to come up with anything that looked, well, professional.

if you are using Photoshop... open a new document with the mode set to Greyscale. Fill with the shade of grey you want. Goto Render>Noise>add noise. Then goto Filter>Blur>motion blur. That should give you a decent heathered looking texture.

You will probably want to play with the noise and motion blur sliders to get it the way you want it.

Is this what you are looking for? This was taken from a shirt and created as a seamless texture.

I just tried using grey as my foreground and white as my background color. went to Filter>Render>Fibers.......Set the Variance all the way to the right and the strength all the way to the left and that seemed to make a good texture also.
