I have used FreeHand for 13+ years and it is an incredible tool.

That being said, Adobe purchased Macromedia and no longer has been upgrading Freehand MX. They claim they are not dropping the product, yet they have not released an update to the product nor do we have any idea of if and when they will. It's a great product and I'm sure you will find it powerful enough to meet your needs. It's also very user friendly.

It's just a matter of time until we know for sure what Adobe's plans are with this program. I've also been working on some free tutorials on using FreeHand since others may want to know a little more about it.

illustrator is the industry standard for most graphics based companies. i have used it for years and it's a fantastic vector program. it also has a significant learning curve and it's not inexpensive.

many forum members use corel and they will tell you it is also a great tool and much cheaper than illustrator.

both programs are great for making spot color t-shirt art.

Flash is more for the web, than design. Not saying it can't, but more geared towards it.

Flash is a very credible vector editor. Freehand is also a powerful vector tool. I personally use Illustrator primarily because it's the one I'm used to using. I have used Freehand and Corel and they all have their plus' and minus'. In my estimation freehand is the more user friendly of the bunch but thats just me. Illustrator is the standard i suppose depending on who you talk to but it integrates well with photoshop and that can be a bonus sometimes. Since you have Freehand give it a go and feel your way around in it. There are some good tutorials on the web for it and I know several Tshirt art guys who swear by it.
Best of luck to you

I agree FreeHand is more user friendly than them all. Illustrator is the industry standard in graphic design, but I think Corel is moving up in the tshirt and sign industry, at least from what I've seen.

Go for Illustrator... best vector program, easy to learn as well, especially the newer versions.
