hey guys,

i will get my cutter next week and have a few questions.

1. When i am designing in illustrator and i want to do a 3-color graphic, do i make 3 different layers and do them separately or can i just design on one layer then send it to the plotter?

2. how does the plotter know which color is which?

And, 3. where would i put the registration marks to line up the vinyl when applying?

You can design in one or three colors, but you will need to be able to select only the first color to cut. Then you load a new vinyl color in your plotter, select and cut color 2 etc. The software you use will determine the details.

If you are using heat applied vinyl, you won't be able to use registration marks (unless you want them part of the shirt when you press it)

You just lay the first color down and press, peel, lay the second color in place and tack it down with a few small pieces of thermal tape, press etc.

Yes, the plotter will trace the stroke path, cutting along the way.
