Default Overlapping text in PS or AI

Have an idea for a design, but I need to learn how to overlap text. Trying to have the positive space of one word show up as negative space in another word. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any help! Travis

The easiest way is to copy the text and change the color, and then paste it inside the other text. You must have thext converted to outlines in AI or have the text rasterized in photoshop to do it.

(In illustrator) Click on the word or object you want to copy and hit (CTRL + C) then (CTRL + F) this will copy and paste your text or object right on top of eachother. Then all you have to do is scale it to the size you want and change the color.

I guess I wasnt very clear on what I was trying to achieve, so I included a makeshift example. Any suggestions? The circle represents one type of text, and obviously, the word text represents another. See what Im trying to acheive with the pos/neg relationship? Thanks again for the help all! Travis

Ahhh ok. Draw your shape and your text. Color each one to your specs. Create your text to outlines. Select your text and objects simultaneously and in the ALIGN box click the very top right button (exclude overlapping shape areas). . . . . and walaaa.
