Convert your separations/plates to a 1-Bit bitmap

Your separations should be in greyscale. Change the mode to bitmap (Image/Mode/Bitmap)
In the resulting menu change the method to use: Halftone Screen
In the resulting Halftone Screen dialog
Set your frequency - this is the size of your dots. Depending on your mesh count you'll need to choose the correct number. To test try a large halftone say 20.
Angle of 25 degrees should be fine and shape to ellipse

Usually when you install it, it will let you know. If you get the full version, and don't register it, it willl go into 30 day trial version I believe.

Open photoshop, look at top bar for help, in help menu if register, and activate are grayed out, you should be good to go.
