Default Converting to a vector image.

Someone gave me their artwork (looks to be done in microsoft paint) and I need to change it to an useable image (vector). I recently got Coreldraw 12. Can anyone walk me thru this process?

Do you only have Corel Draw12 or do you have Corel Graphics Suite 12?

If you have Graphics Suite 12, while it's open in Draw, click on Bitmap and then Trace. After it's gone through the Trace proceedure, it's vectorized.
Not knowing what you have for a program and not knowing what the artwork is, that's the best I can do for you. There is more to it than what I said, but in the roughest, most basic terms, that's what you'll be doing. If Richard (FLUID DESIGNS) posts a reply to your question, I don't think there's any better advice you can get out there, listen to him.

Hello there...

Well am not sure if corel 12 has this option, am working with Corel X3 (13), but i guess we will find out soon

What i do when i want to vectorice a image (bmp or jpg or tiff...etc) its import (not open) that file with Corel and then , once you click on that file, on the top-right side of your screen,( i have it that way) it has to show you the PROPERTIES toolbar.

( if you dont have it , go to windows(on the top menu) scrol down a little bit and choose TOOLBARS (am sorry if its not that name , i have it in spanish but it has to be in the same place...Anyway...its the 3th option in the middle section and then choose the 4th option and there you go.

Once you have that PROPERTIES toolbar there you have to press on this buttom (to be able to see it you have to select your bitmap first) press VECTORICE BITMAP (again, am guessing what it says in english cause i have it in spanish , but it has to be something like that)

Then i choose CLIPART and just play with the options on that window.
You will have to work on that logo (or whatever you have) a little bit after you transform the image in to a vector image, it depends on the quality of the image.
This option works great with plain colors and not too much pixelate bipmaps, if thats not the case , maybe you wanted to draw it yourself ( if it was made with "paint" i dont think its going to be so hard to do it... )

I wish you the best and if you have doubts just ask again

See ya...

Just to add to this: If the art contains flat colors without any shading or effects (shadows, glows, etc.) it should work relatively easy. But if it has a lot of the afforementioned items in it, then the tracing may not work that good. One thing that would help is if you could post a picture of what you need to trace.

I have been trying to do the same thing but my image has shadow and it is impossible to work with it. Any suggestions. My image is the Eagles Football helmet with wings. I need Navy helmet with orange outlined wings. It's killing me.

I hate to say it, but without seeing the actual image it looks like you may have to do go the manual route with the pen tool. Is there any way you can post it so we can see?

I agree with Jason. Sounds like your going to need to recreate the image entirely or find it in clipart, which you should easily be able to.

Default Re: Converting to a vector image.

You just need to draw it , it doesnt seem too complicated...
The shadow is just a gray color is not a degradation.

I found a picture on internet here http://www.thefanschoice.com/images/...0Eagles3x4.jpg

i went to Corel Draw , i import the image and like i said before i use the option "vectorize bitmap" and pretty much it does all the work...i just need to put some anchor points in place and thats all...
Its a little work but im sure you could do it...

But like i said i dont think is too much work if you know how to use the Bezier tool...

Kinda stinks you have to start learning to recreate something with a football helmet though. Lots o' curves.
