Hi this is my first post and probably first of many.
Does anybody know how this has been designed and then printed? Im sure the mag wasnt single colour but they've done this really well I reckon, very evocative. Any help appreciated as it seems to be a cool way off getting the dramatic nature of a photo across without creating printing hassles.
Well, I'm not a printer, I just do designs but judging on the number of colors (3) it can be screenprinted. It looks too long to be from a transfer paper, it's alos very clear.
From what I can tell, it looks like a screen print. 3 Colors. The image itself can be done in Photoshop. There are a few ways to create it. Without seeing it up close, it would be hard to say exactly which one. The first that comes to mind is the "Stamp" filter.

This can be done in Photoshop for sure and my guess, is made after a picture, it looks like the sea to me... I can do this kind of image playing only with the brightness and contrast and maximum 3 layers.

Yes, basically its a of a surfer. Any chance you could explain how this is done in photoshop please?
You will find attached bellow the images I worked with.
First I googled a picture with wawes and I opened it in Photoshop. My picture was a .bmp at 72 pixels/inch so because we're making a t-shirt design I had to resize it at 300 pixels/inch and crop a part of it making look like in your image.
I duplicate the Background from the Layer menu and deleted the original picture keeping only the new layer.
Then in the Photoshop menu I went to Image-Ajustments-Desaturate to make it in gray colors only. I went to Image-Brightness/Contrast and set the Contrast to +20 to make a little clear the dark sides.
Next I went to Image-Ajustments-Levels and play with the two arrown (from the first square) bringing them to the middle until I'll get a clean, visible black and white image.
Then using the Magic Wand Tool (W) I deleted all the major white parts from the image making them transparent. After this I went to Filter-Sketch-Stamp to round the edges.
Next I had to make it the color I wanted to be so I right clicked the image layer and went to Blending Options cliked on Color Overlay and inserting the color I wanted. Then I inserted the text and image was ready for print.
I also attached a preview T-shirt.
I'm not to good explaining so maybe some guys have better methods and you'll understand better.
This is easy to do but you need to know the basic elements of Photoshop so search for some tutorials on the net... you'll find a lot of them and free.
looks to be photoshopped onto the garment.
but from a design stand-point the tan layer was taken from a photograph and used the brightnes/contrast settings to bring it down to one color. the typography was added lastly and not very effectivly i might add. i probably wouldnt have printed red onto a coral/pink shirt either. thats just me.
GiL, Thanks for the perspective! I do not use Photo Shop, but your explanation was great!
Thanks,
Jim
Well... thank you , when I read it now it sounds like a baking recipe: Insert idea into the brain, leave it there for 30 min, to be served on a t-shirt, preferably cold.
I tried my best.
Question, peeps, if i designed a t-shirt using photoshop, how do i get that made and sell it, or just sell the design or what not?
You either contact a printer to print it for you, get the equipment to print it yourself, or you use a service like cafepress/printfection/zazzle to print and sell it.
Come up with a business plan to market and sell your shirts.
