Default Beginner color management- 1st step? Oki color question too.

I've just aquired an Oki c3200 color laser with OEM toner and an OKI c5200 color laser with dye-sub inks.

That's two color printers with the same engine and interchangeable toner cartridges, yet the colors come out differently. Is this normal because of the different toner types? The OEM pictures are bright. The dye-sub pictures are dull. Will they brighten after dye-subbing?

How do I make sure a picture has the same coloring whether I print it through one printer or the other?

What are the first steps to take as I start to understand color management? I need to take some baby steps of understanding. I've heard of color charts but I have no idea how to use them. Where do I go to learn this stuff?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

havilahgold

PS - I do have Photoshop and Illustrator if that will help me.

Sorry I can't help you with the bulk of this, but this one question I can answer:

Yes, the dye sub ink will brighten when applied. It appears duller on the paper before it is transfered.

Also are you using the color profile for the dyesub.? I dont know if you can ever get the colors to match exactly as Oem and dye sub toners are two complete differant type of ink.. So it will all depend on how exact you need the colors to be.

Hi. As a beginner I need to know the first step in how to use a color profile. Where do I find it? How does it work?

At this point I don't need exact colors, but I yearn to learn the secrets - you never know what the future holds.

what software are you using?

Read up on color management in your user guide. It should give you good info and a great starting point.

Also search the software help files for color management.
