Default Emailing Client Graphics for Approval

If I want to email my client the graphic artwork for approval, how should I save the file?
I've read on here to use psd, or tiff (I'm new to this and not even sure what those are), or to keep it in it's original format, such as Corel, but what if the client doesn't have Corel, they can't open it right? What's the best way to save for sending via email assuming the client has only basic knowledge of computers, and basic software?.

Thanks for your help,

I also use JPG. It can be opened by anyone, you don't need a graphics program to access it. Most of the time it will just load automatically in the email so your client won't have to do anything at all. I usually make it around 150dpi.

Thanks for the help.
Jpeg is what we used, but the customer was all "I got it, but it looks kind of funny" LOL So my biz partner had to go to the home and show the graphic using his laptop. Then they were ok with it. We started thinking "is Jpeg not the format to use?". Maybe it was just their comp, maybe old or something, who knows.

might need to use a higher resloution and watermark the design. yet this could cause issues as well. JPEG proofs are pretty much the norm.

You could also try a PDF file.

We send low-resolution PDF's for proofing. Usually around 150 dpi.

PDF's are good yet the securities are worthless. If you publish a vector file to pdf your in for a world of hurt. Make sure you convert the image to a jpeg before converting yet the same jpeg polocies apply. If its too good of a resolution an expoerenced artist can manipulate enough to get a decent print.
