Default How to put a drawing into Photoshop?

Hello everyone. I do graffiti art on paper as well as characters. I was wondering how is it that I can put my drawings into photoshop so I can then print them out and press them to a shirt using my dye sublimation process. I already press photos and other artwork that I get form customers, but just don't know how to put my own drawings on them. If anyone know how or has anykind of information, it would be very helpful. Thank you guys.

You need to get a scanner. Scan the art into PS. Clean up and print.

Yup.. Scanner. I'd get one that's at least 600 DPI.

If you want to skip the "drawing on paper" part you can get a Wacom tablet and draw directly into the graphics program. Saves some time.

"Cleaning" usually means you have to take the brush tool (or whatever the PS equivalent is) and erase all the little scruffy bits, adjust things here and there, etc.

A Wacom tablet is a device that plugs into your computer and acts like an electronic sketchpad. Go to wacom.com, you can see some pics.

Color correcting is usually one of the things youll need to do with a flat bed scanner. Colors are close yet never exact. As Jasonda mentioned, erasing unwanted artifacts, sharpening the image, contrast enhancement, etc.

If your system is not color calibrated correctly your prints will not look like the image on screen. This is usually the case as most have little knowledge in color management. Read all the help info in photoshop on color management and set your compueter as close as you can. This will help tremendously.

Just to agree with Jasonda and Richard,

The biggest issue with scanning in art for me is color accuracy and and cleaning up minor defects. Profiling your scanner helps with the color greatly and as long as the scan is of a high DPI clean-up is easy in most cases.

Just jump in and start playing around with Photoshop, it isn't that hard to learn; intimidating at first glance, but not that difficult once you dive in.

Hit google for tutorial or "how-to" searches on what you want to accomplish. There are probably thousands of results with step by step instructions to help you.

Yes, they are very accurate. It takes a few days to get used to drawing on the tablet and looking at the screen, but after you adjust it is really nice and you can work very quickly. I like it because it's very easy to fix mistakes and make several different versions of a design without losing the original.

Yup. I had my doubts too once upon a time, but they work as advertised. Some people like them, some people don't, but they're definitely worth trialing if you have a computer store nearby where that would be possible.

I think the 12X12 is overkill. I use the 6X8 and it works just fine with my 21" moniter

Clean it up = get rid of noise (like dust from the scanner, other random fuzz), adjust contrast and brightness, etc. Depending on how you want the product to look in the end (ie, if you don't want to have it look drawn), you might want to try out doing a vector trace of the image. That can be done in Illustrator, or for free, Inkscape.

Wacom is a brand of tablets. It's a computer input device that basically gives you a "pen" to write with - they're pressure-sensitive and all sorts of fun things like that. I have one, but I don't make enough use of it, I think. Maybe because I am terrible at drawing?

Thanks again. I was reading that the 12x12 would be easier to put a letter size page over it to trace a drawawing that was made. I really want to get one of these tablets but not sure wich one is a good size?

I have a 12x12 tablet, it is indeed very large and if you don't need that size I would recommend getting a smaller one. A 9x12 is a little smaller but it will allow you to trace a page, so you should probably get one of those.
