You're welcome!

You can usually find good deals on older models on eBay. Just make sure the connector type matches your computer (USB) and that it comes with a pen. I have an older model (Intuos) and it works just fine, and it was only $150 or so.

Getting the proper size is much more important than getting the newest model, in my opinion.

While I lean toward thinking the bigger the better, it will partly come down to personal preference (there is such a thing as too big). It's definitely not necessary to buy an enormous tablet, but if you go too small it's going to be quite hard to use effectively.

What I like to do & think would work better than putting a piece of paper on your tablet is to scan the sketch in (color correctness be damned!) then add a transparent layer in your graphics program & trace the image on screen with your tablet...once you have your nice, clean, digital outline, erase the background sketch...
