Question coreldraw: removing bitmap from traced vector?

I had a high resolution bitmap that I imported into CorelDraw X3.

I traced it using Corel's tracing features but I forgot to click "remove original image" before I did the trace.

Now I have this nice vector looking the way I want, but there's a little bit of the original bitmap showing behind the vector and I can't seem to get rid of it.

I tried retracing the bitmap, but I can't seem to get the colors looking the same as the original trace I did.

Is there a way to remove the bitmap/original image after the fact?

Hi Rodney,
I'm certainly no expert but whenever I use trace in X3, even if I leave the bitmap undeleted I can just pick up the vector and move it away from the bitmap?

you can select the vector and move it aside and then select the bitmap and delete. Make sure your vector is grouped together first.

Just tab throught the objects until you get the bitmap and delete it.

I always leave the bitmap in case I need to do a retrace. this saves from having to reimport or scan.

Thanks everyone!

I was about to ask how you "tab" through the objects and then I thought, "maybe I better just hit the tab key and see what happens"

Much easier than I thought. That's a handy little shortcut!

Why is it that when I do a trace on a high quality image, it comes out looking like a bad splotchy art deco?

I meant to ask that myself one day I first thought that High quality image setting would give me the best results, turned out it's usually the Logo one that gives me the image I like the best.

Isn't there a "detail" level setting when you do the tracing?

I noticed if you just do a "quicktrace" you'll get just some standard results, but if you choose like the "logo" trace option like Annushka said, you get more options to make the vector look more detailed/cleaner.

Ok, here is an example:

Original image reduced to 800 x 600 for this posting or it would have been huge.

Then, the image traced on hi quality image, default settings with RGB. If I add additional detail, it looks worse.

I must be missing something

It looks like your asking it to do too much. There are a lot of color variations in that image. It is doing it's best to turn it all into vector. The tracing is best for flat solid color images.

Im with Robert. Everyone thinks that the tracing software out there will take a image and trace an exact replica in vector. If this weere the case I would not have a job as anyone could just take a photo of a car (or what ever) trace and bam they have high en art and the click of a button. The trace in X3 is at the top of the list in tracing progs. The results are all dependant on the original imager and the settings you choose.

I use the high quality setting for all my traces. I aslo modify the default setting to fit my needs. Editing the image before tracing will result in a better trace. Editing contrast, saturation, removing issue areas and ultimately using high quality images will result in the best trace.

Zoom into the picture to the highest zoom possible. What does the image look like. you see at the pixels, right. Essentiall this is what the tracing software is converting to vector. To the naked eye you see solid areas of color for the most aprt yet in reality there are tons of tiny pixels/colors

Learn to use the tools to recreate the picture rather than expect an "easy button" After messing around with various settings, modifications of the art and limitations of the tracing software youll get a good system down and will atually being to like trace.

I agree with both posts (Robert and Fluid). I consulted my sign "guru" who "instructed" me in almost the same language with a few @##@@#$ @#$@ added (of course, he touts the virtues of Flexi over all others as well).

Thanks for the responses. Fluid, are there any free "feeler" tutorials on your sight?

Im working on some free turorials and one is how the get to best trace
I haste all the hype made about tracing software as most think it will render a perfect image. Ultimately is doenst and causes a major let down and a lot of griping about the software. When the tuts are ready they will be available at Welcome to AdvancedArtist.com Graphics Tutorials. Tom and I are working on some things and hope to have them up soon.
