HELP!! I just had a friend of mine do some design work for some racing shirts. I picked up the artwork & it's nothing like it was supposed to be. I need to have these shirts printed by this Friday. I use Corel Draw, which is what he used, but he also used Eyecandy, which I don't have. I've tried to go back in & clean up what he did to make it right, but no luck. I don't know if I'm posting on the right board or not, so - sorry if I'm not. I'm looking for someone that can help with this design. You can email me at
I've tried to upload it here, but I can't get it to work. I have dial up internet and it is terribly slow...I think that's my problem. It seems to be timing out before it uploads. I'll try again....
Oops, I guess it did work. The attached is what he wants the shirts to look like, not what my friend did. This time, I've attached the artwork I picked up today. Sorry about that...I didn't realize it worked!
If the image you posted is the art youll need to separate the file as simulated process. Depending on the shirt clor will determine the total number of colors. Based on that image I would say your looking at at least a 6-color print.
hey Richard, from your experiance as a screen printer with an inhouse art dep.
, would you say that it may work out best for the screen printers like yourself to basically take the clients art and do all the necessary pre-production stuff to get it read for screens ? would that be a better way than dealing with the clients art dep. ready for screen files etc ..??? when this happens, how often does the screen printer still need to do some additional art changes/work etc???
Actually yes. Its good and bad yet I would rather get a completed design and I separate the plates than have the client supply the seps. The bad part is this is why I carge for art/separations.
I have been separating t-shirt art for abut 8-9 years now. Im pretty good and usually get it right the first time. When clients supply the art, if there are any errors or changes that need to be made were both hosed. I have to stop production until I can contact, discuss the issues and receive fixed plates from the artist/client. This could easily take a couple of days. If I were to separate the design and an edit needed to be made to a plate, it could easily be made, new screen burned and set up for a strike off within an hours time. Less time loss, more money earned.
aditional art changes/work.? - This all depends on who created the art and seps. I have people submit "camera ready art" and its a 2x2 full color, low res jpeg needed for a full back print
yeah how do you deal with that profesionally? Do you try the customers seps and then when things go wrong charge them or do you just tell them that you don't except customers seps? Everyone who gives me their seperations nine out of ten times either they don't work right or I can have gotten them better especially on trap plates. I'm confused on how to deal with it profesionally. I really just want to say I would rather just do the seps myself because everyone has variations in their print style and method.
I do not gurantee the print when the customer supplies the films unless I know they are good to go before burning. Too many variables when other supply the films and like you mentioned they are usually wrong somewhere.
I jsut did a job with customer supplied films and the white underbase was wrong and not choked properly. Some of it was showing on the print. Customer did not want the extra fees so they gave us the ok to run.
If I have to edit art/seps after setting the job up, the client is charged screen fees for both setups and a $35 fee for setting up the first screens.

I hate to say it, but we don't even do any jobs unless we do the seps/films etc. Period. I always wondered why the boss is like that.
