Thumbs up Discussion: T-Shirt Forums 2 Year Anniversary T-Shirt Design Extravaganza contest

Although 2 years only qualifies us for toddler age in website years, there's no reason we can't have a 2007 T-Shirt Design Extravaganza.

Yeah, I said extravaganza...sounds exciting right?

Last year's anniversary t-shirts turned out great and I'm hoping for an even bigger response to this year's design contest.
I've sort of dubbed 2007, "The Year of the T-Shirt". It just seems like big things are happening this year in the industry. T-Shirts seem to be getting more media attention lately.
So the loose theme of this year's t-shirt design contest will be "The Year of the T-Shirt" (a t-shirt design about the t-shirt industry).

Get your creative engines cranking!

Here are the T-Shirt Forums 2 Year Anniversary T-Shirt Design Extravaganza contest rules:
  • Rule number one: don't limit yourself to the design placement or size on the shirt. All over, over sized, wrap around, standard placement, small size will all be considered. If your design wins, we'll figure out a way to get it printed (and document the process here to help others)

Rule number two: don't limit yourself to my cheesy design theme If you get a creative inspiration for a design that's semi related...go for it.

Rule number three: the entries don't have to use the T-ShirtForums.com logo (last year's contest did).

  • Design should be 1-4 colors.
  • JPG previews/mockup entries should be sent to [email address]. Please include your forum username with your entry (although it will be kept private during the voting)
Keep the source vector/psd/eps/ai/cdr/high resolution file on your computer until the winner is named

  • Contest Deadline for entries will be April 4, 2007 11:59:59PM PST.
  • Entries will be voted on anonymously by fellow forum members for 2 weeks after the contest.
  • The winning design will be the one with the most amount of votes, with the final decision being made by your's truly (like last year, it will probably be the design with the most votes that gets chosen).
  • You must be a registered t-shirtforums.com member with at least 5 posts in order to enter.
  • Limit one entry per member
  • Winning design will be printed on a limited number of individually numbered high quality t-shirts and given away to T-ShirtForums.com members with X number of posts (to be defined later )

Unlike last year's design, this year's design will also be made available for sale to members who don't get a free one (and anybody else that digs the design)

So what do you win?
In addition to super mega awesome bragging rights, the winning designer will receive the following swag:
(the list below will grow as I think up more cool stuff to give away)
  • $350 USD cash
  • 30GB iPod Video
  • Added!Cool Blue Aluminum Anodized iPod Case from corecases.com
  • Added!Bluetooth wireless headphones from Creative
  • 5 t-shirts with the winning design
  • A copyright application filed with the US Copyright Office for the winning design
  • A unique forum shirt avatar color

All submitted entries remain the intellectual property of the designer. The designer will retain ownership and copyright of the winning design, however T-ShirtForums.com will have exclusive rights to printing and giving away/selling the design on t-shirts as well as using the image for promotional purposes regarding the shirt and contest.
Entries should be sent as JPG previews/mockups and emailed to [email address].

Please include your forum username with your entry (although it will be kept private during the voting)

Keep the source vector/psd/eps/ai/cdr/high resolution file on your computer until the winner is named
Any questions at all, please post them here.

Hi Jonathon, good question!

I'm actually not trying to portray any feeling. The theme/idea for the contest is a t-shirt design about the t-shirt industry. So it's really your interpretation and your feeling of how a t-shirt industry t-shirt would look.

I guess another way of putting it would be a t-shirt design celebrating the t-shirt industry.

The design will be voted on by your peers in the t-shirt industry, so maybe something that you think others will dig?

Hope that helps some...any other questions, just let me know!

I'm excited to see what folks come up with this year.

I'm excited to use the word "extravaganza" (one of my new favorites).

Wow, I did not know this domain was open for so long... lord, I wish I had known 26 months ago!

Congrats, Rodney! You know, my ex has been in the t-shirt transfer business for 3 1/3 years. I have been in the business for 3 weeks. This forum has helped me to understand more than she does about printing. Thank you, Rodney... and everyone else who has donated precious time to answer questions posted here.

Any side bets on the number of entries that we'll have this year?

Well, it IS an extravaganza, but you know how the printing costs can get up there with 4 color+ prints.

I don't want to limit things too much though. If you need 4 colors, go for it!

I'm not sure about an 8 color design though...unless we can get someone to donate the printing

This doesn't make much sense to me. I think there should either be a set number of colors or no limit at all. There's no point to having "rules" in a contest if you can bend or break them and still win.

I'm not saying it's going to be unfair, or that someone who uses 4 colors will win automatically over someone who uses 3, because I think that the popularity of a design is going to mostly depend on the subject and execution of the design itself.

But I DO think color is a factor and it should be clearly defined for everyone.

Yes, there is a limit. 4 colors

The rules are guidelines, and as I mentioned in the first couple of rules, I don't want to limit creativity, but it won't make business sense to print an 8 color design.

I originally thought 3 colors would be enough, but if there is enough demand for 4 colors, I'm flexible.

That doesn't mean that only ONE person can use 4 colors, anybody can if they like. I'll go ahead and update the original post to include the new number

I agree that the number of colors won't make the design win

Any other feedback, just let me know.

One entry per person????? I can't design even if my life depends on it, but I'll give it a shot when my brain is in a creative mood. Great incentives, Rodney!
