Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this matter? Once you buy a font online does that mean you can automatically print it on a t-shirt and not worry about any implications, or are there fonts which prohibit the use, even though they've been bought? If so has anyone on here experienced that or know of someone who was pulled up for doing so?
Most fonts come with a licencing agreement you will need to read. Generally if you've bought it you can probably use it in commercial use, but not necessarily - you may need to purchase a further licence (and pretty much never a small section from it as a detail or logo, etc.).
Cheers guys my question is actually for a friend who asked me to help find some answers for him. For the font he has purchased in the ageement it reads:
"Subject to the provisions in sub-sections 1.3 and 1.4 of this agreement, selling, lending or otherwise transferring the Font Software to a third party or parties is strictly prohibited. In addition, transferring the Font Software as a component or sub-component of other products, e.g. electronic documents or sublicenses, to a third party or parties is also strictly prohibited"
I think maybe this could also be construed as the transferal of the font onto a t-shirt which is then sold. What do you think?

The graphical depiction/output of the font is not the Font Software itself; I don't think that clause prohibits anything but the transfer and sale of the font itself. It would probably include things like embedding the font into a file so someone could see it, but not things like printing a word on a banner or t-shirt (which might still be prohibited by a different clause). Usual IANAL disclaimers apply.
I'm not an expert in any way on this, but here is what I did. I found a font that was perfect for my logo. It was listed as a "free for personal use" font, so I contacted the creator of the font and was upfront about what I wanted to use it for. I offered to buy the font since it was going to be used in a commercial venture. He told me that it was totally free for whatever I wanted to use it for as long as I wasn't reselling the font as a font (does that make sense?).
I would think that if you paid for it, you could use it for a logo, but not to resell the font as your own. Just play it safe and contact the owner of the font and ask them what you asked here. Good luck!
Cheers Solmu, the agreement does indeed state that the embedding of the font in electronic files etc is prohibited but it does state that the licensee may not embed font software in a commercial product without a separate written licence. The font in question is Pump Triline, I've actually seen this font on shirts before.
No your good to use the font for a t-shirt. You cannot give to font to anyone else

If you need to send your art to anyone just convert the fonts to curves before sending.
essentially the agreement is stating that you purchased the font foryour use only. You cannot give it away, embedd in files when you send to contractors, sell to someone else, sell in a package, etc.
