I want to know how do you make a graident design or type, I have adobe photoshop and illustrator cs2, and i don't know how to do it and have tried many times. I s it something only the printshop can do? I want to do something like this:http://www.digitalgravel.com/itemdet...=53&vndr=1073#
I can't figure out how to do it, and how to get it printed on a shirt.
Let me see if I can write this in easy steps.
1. select the type you want with the gradient. Hold down the ctrl=shift=O button to convert it to outlines. (you don't need to do this but it is best for beginners.
2.GO to Window, scroll down to gradient, and the gradient window will pop up once it is checked.
3.In the gradient palette select linear, and set the angle at 90 degress.
4.Now click and drag the colors you want in the gradient from the colors palette into the gradient palette.
5.You have to assign the halftone value for these before you seperate it to film, but leave that to the screen printer because he will dtermine what line screen is necessary.
Thank you very much, that helped alot, but what about bitmapped objects or regular images, such as the skulls on the shirt i posted?? aND HOW DO YOU DO ONCE LONG GRADIENT SUCH AS THE ONE on the shirt, instead of each object and type object having its own seperate gradient???
alright, here we go...
1. Take the bitmap image in photoshop you want, all the type and skull as one layer (we'll just assume it's black).
2.Go up to layers>flatten Image.
3.Now go to image>mode>greyscale.
4.Now file>save as> save it as a tiff
5.Open Illustrator.
6.Create a new document.
7.Go to FIle>Place and click the image wherever you want it.
8.Click the arrow next to the trace button and go down to Black and white logo (I'm assuming it's very similar to the picture you referenced).
9.Now click the expand button.
10.Go to object>ungroup.
11. Now this part is differnet for people with more experience. But I want to make it easy for you. select a piece of the black design with your arrow tool and then go to Select>same>fill color, and that will select all the black in the design.
12. Now go to WIndow>Pathfinder and it will open the pathfinder palette. with all the black still selected go to the first button in the pathfinder palette (add to shape area and click it).
13. now all the black is one shape.
14.Now click on the gradient palette and repeat the same steps as the other reply I typed.
that one will be a little different because it's not one solid color, it's a gradient overlayed over a greyscale image however this style is easy to do as well. If you want to do something like that let me know and I'll post you the steps for it.
2.Turn it from a background layer to workable layer
3. Use the magic wand toll and select all the white around the selection
4.go to image>mode>CMYK
5.Create a new layer
6.Now go to Select>Inverse. this will inverse your selection.
7.Now click the gradient tool.
8.Click on the gradient color and go to gradient editor. Set the colors you want, I used the same colors you had in the other shirt design.
9.Now Hold down the shift button and click and drag the curser from top to bottom of your design. It will fill the selection porportionaly with the gradient.
10.Now go the layers palette and in the options menu click screen
in the layers options.
this is what you'll get,
11. Then use the type tool, to type whatever letters you want.
