ok I am a novice with Adobe Illustrator, but I have done this before but can't figure it out today.
I need help creating the design that I can use to flash with. I want my flash to be just a bit smaller then my image, when you use "scale" it makes it smaller but it wont line up correct.
I thought you use Outline Stroke, but nothing happens.
Basically I have a word and I want to make the same word just a bit smaller.
My real desire is more like using the Varsity font (you know the font with the outline, I am want to make the outline color gold and the inner color silver, but I figured I can do it this way too.
From what I understand, it sounds like you want create an "offset path". Try this: Select the word or text. Next ,and most important, convert the text into "paths". To do this go to the Type menu and select 'Create Outlines'. The next step is to go to the Object menu and select 'Offset Path'. This will bring you to a dialog box asking you How Much of an 'offset' you want to do. To get an idea of what it's going to look like be sure to click 'preview'.
There is another method to solve this problem, but start with this one and see how it works for you.
I use offset path all the time to create a border and a cut line around graphics and have used it to create "varsity letters". The one I created had three layers.
You would first need to outline the text.
Add an offset path with a positive amount and one with a negative amount. You will then have to rearrange the paths, larger in the back smaller in the front and apply the correct fills to each layer.
You are going to have to experiment with the values. Sometimes the larger path is just a big blob and the smaller path can get too thin.
