[Photoshop] - Transferring large design to shirt template problems
Transferring large design to shirt template problems
Hi folks!!
The last time I posted on here, I hadn't a clue what to do with Photoshop. Now, many moons later I've completed some designs and hope to progress to setting up a website soon.
HOWEVER!!!! All my designs are approximately 'life-size', or more specifically around A3, but when I've tried to re-size them to place them on a shirt template I'm having real difficulty.
Is there an easy way to do this? Moving all layers at once, dragging/re-sizing the complete design and moving it across to the template?
With one design in particular, the layer effect and the font just don't translate at all when I move it layer by layer, and it takes a lot of work to finish a mock-up.
Re: Transferring large design to shirt template problems
First, know what size you want the finished design to be...Just re-size your layered file to that size and save it with a new file. (do not flatten the image). If your trying to drag a layer, resize it then go grab another layer and resize it your going to be very aggrivated getting all the layers to match back up! You can also lock the layers and scale them to keep them aligned.
Hope this helps...

Hmm, i'd have to disagree. I've done a gazillion mockups & this is what I do:
Export design from AI to .psd. (FLATTENED, & CMYK not RGB. This will look closer to what it will actually look like printed)
Open mockup file in PS.
Open flattened design in PS.
Right click flattened design, 'duplicate layer'.
In the destination drop down, select your mockup file.
Resize design on mockup.
Make sure it is under any shadow layers of the mockup, otherwise it sits on top of the shadows and doesn't look as realistic.
Dealing with layers in a mockup is a pain AND pointless..
Also, I think setting the size before putting it on the mockup is counter productive. You really need to resize and move around the positioning of the design once it is placed on the mockup.

You're right, although aggrivated is putting it very mildly!!
I designed the original image to the size I want it to be printed, and then re-sized to what should have been appropriate for the template. But, then how do you match them up/combine them without dragging?

Thanks Chobay, I'll try to give this a go, but I've been dealing primarily with Photoshop and RGB.
How do you get the design under the shadow layers of the template?

So much learned, SO much still to learn!
You can save a copy of your layered design, by clicking file, 'save as'. Check mark 'as a copy'. Uncheck 'layers'.
Then open that file and duplicate it as a new layer onto your mockup. To move the layer up or down once the design is on the mockup, just simply click on the layer in your layers panel, and drag it down so it is under your shadows, but above the shirt color.

Many, many thanks again, and for such a quick reply.
I reckon I could follow that, shall give it a go, after some coffee of course! I'm on UK time!

No problem, i'm about to go to bed.. (us east coast time)
Seriously, once you get the hang of the steps, it becomes second nature. (keyboard shortcuts help immensely as well) I did that sample in about 60 seconds.

I know, I cannot believe how so many things are second nature when 4 months ago I hadn't even opened Photoshop.

Just to let you know, that worked an absolute treat, and saved me many headaches. Although, there's a few more to come I'm sure! For a start, I've got a design involving a rectangular block of colour that I need to fit in with a round neck collar on the mock up. Should be interesting, and I may annoy you again!

Can explain in more detail what you're trying to do? Maybe we can help some more..

Excuse the late reply, was preping for a job interview.
Basically, I have a design which splits the tee directly in two - one half blue, one half white. This was done using the rectangle tool.
But now if I want to put it on a template/mock-up I have to shape it around the collar and the seam at the arm to make a perfect half of the real tee.
So far I've only been able to make a hatchet job using the eraser and clone stamp.....probably a much easier and effective way........help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Neal
