Default color separation software

We have customers all the time provide us with multiple color JPG designs they want us to use. Is there any software that will auto do the color separation with out is having to ooutline each color in the design, and if not which is the easiest to use for this situation. Hate to spend days doing color separation on complex designs.

Thanks

"spot process" and "fast films" are two that come to mind, but there are others.

There several programs and adobe photoshop plugins available. Most are plugins for photoshop, but some are standalone. Do a search for "art color separation software" and you'll find some good ones.

I have been training myself on seps for the past couple of days. I plan on making a video once I get the process down better, but so far I have been downloading various images from the web that look challenging. I bring them into Photoshop and use different techniques to separate the artwork, depending on the colors used in the graphics.
During the separation process, I save each color into a spot channel, that way when I place the finished graphic into In-Design for final output, I can use In-Design's Ink Manager to either group or control each color during output. By using In-Design, you can choose which channels you want to output, so there is no need to split channels in photoshop and save each sep as a separate file.
Also, by using Photoshop and making spot channels, I assign each channel with the appropriate color I plan to use for printing, so I can deselect all of the channels except for my separated channels to get a rough idea how the image will look once it's been printed.

Some artwork is more challenging than others, but I am getting a feel for it and I do believe I will get the hang of this, so I won't need to buy any of those expensive sep programs. Sometimes I find it is best to use a CMYK image to start with, while others I use RGB. And sometimes I find it best to use a combination of both.

Cheers,

Tracy

As usual,we use adobe illustrator to seperate the colour .Especially the artwork is very
complicated and has many colour to be seperated, actually it will takes more time and
energy to complete, but the effect is very great.LoL.....Good luck and hope you will find a
great software.

We use photoshop and/or photoshop plugins to separate designs that are photorealistic or have gradients and color blending. It's the only way to separate blended colors and complex shading besides cmyk printing. This is done by channels and color range selections and multiplying/adding/merging channels in photoshop.
Easy art, quick seps. fast films, etc. will save you months of headaches in this area.
