Default Need help with bitmap art

I have a customer that sent me the attached artwork for a t-shirt. They want the art on a black t-shirt. My problem is that the art is on a black background. I'm using EZ Screen to separate it for screens, but the image on the seps extends out to the full rectangle instead of being limited to the pulse-looking art. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

I dont' use EZ Screen but here's what I'd do if I was in Photoshop. You may have to adapt the technique to whatever image editing software you currently use.

Use the Curve tool(and to a lesser extent, the Levels tool) to set the Black Background to the absolute limit (RGB 0,0,0 or cymk 0,0,0,100). Any other value will result in dots ending up in areas of the film that you KNOW to be empty. Your separation program should then recognize that no value exist in the given areas.

Hope that helps.
