Default getting started

hello, this is my first post. I have designs and have printed shirts at a cost of about 6 dollars each if i order 200 plus. I currently sell in a local store on consignment. 10 dollars for store and 10 i keep. i want to expand nation wide and have my own web site. What is the averege profit on a shirt? is three dollars profit to little? I find stores won't buy out right no matter how good the shirt is. (they want consignment because it's all profit) What route should i take to make money? i appreaciate your advise. thanks so much bill

I'm still figuring out the in store thing myself, but I do know $3 profit is very low for a shirt. I make around $10+ per shirt, of course in my case half of that goes to charity, but I'm not in it for the money.

I would say $3 is fairly low, you should (at the lowest) be making $5 or more per shirt. But that is in my opinion.

thanks for all the responses, i'm started off as an experiment but realized that my designs sell pretty good so i am learning the ropes as i go. the bottom line is that stores want to mark up 100% and sell shirts for 19.99 dollars. they dont want to buy cash. They will take on consignment. shirts cost 6 bucks or more each but only if i buy in quanity. It doesn't leave alot of room esp. if i ship to stores. i'm sure everyone faces similar problems unless they print there own. Thats not an option for me. thanks bill

The general rule is two mark it up 100% and sell wholesale at that price and then mark up again 100% for your personal retail price. It just keeps the math easier.
