what a lot of people don't realize, is that this Dov guy is a nice Montreal Canadien young fellow that has managed to build a Mega Brand in a 10 year period.

What else can you say.
I guess not everyone would agree with calling him "nice", going by his actions.
It's true that he built a megabrand, and I don't think anybody disputed that. I think most people realize how he built the company.
I think the article just talks about Dov's personality, which not everyone would consider "a nice Montreal Canadien young fellow".
I've talked to him a couple of times way back when, and he seemed like a nice enough guy to me. Definitely unique and driven (and forward thinking).
But I'm guessing even Dov wouldn't characterize himself as just a "nice Montreal Canadian young fellow"
I think the article does a great job at showing all sides. The quirks of Dov's personality, the smart moves he's made, the business he's built, the different sides of the man and the company.
Re: Interesting Inc Mag Article - Dov Charney, American Apparel
I never really liked Charney based on a lot of the articles I read about him. However, I think it's the controversy that makes the brand so unique. I think this article wasn't so much about AA as it was about his nitpicky-ness. I wouldn't approve of the way he gives jobs and orders without second thoughts. Again, that's how he created one of the most coveted t-shirts in America.
Re: Interesting Inc Mag Article - Dov Charney, American Apparel
The real question is why are American Apparel shirts coveted. Sure, their soft, as our many others -- but many, including myself, have found that they can't stand up to the abuse of everyday activities.
Personally I'm very, very OCPD when it comes to cleanliness and organization. Of the 2 AA shirts I've owned, both necks have been stretched out, and the material doesn't seem to be holding up very well. This isn't a good sign when 99.9% of everything I own looks as good as new.

I for one am well aware of it, I just don't think being Canadian is enough to make him a nice guy.
