It makes no difference if the company is paying great wages and giving great benefits. The main word here is ILLIGAL!!. These people are taking work away from people who are citizens of the United States of America. The only reason the pols. are crying is because they are afraid that the 1,800 will not vote for them. Cry me a river.

::They say American Apparel is typical of many companies that, in Mr. Bilbray’s words, have “become addicted to illegal labor.”::

I love that line. Not to say that American Apparel is in the right or the wrong here, I just find it amusing he would choose to use those words, as if AA is paying them anything less than what they would pay a legal citizen. Companies become addicted to illegal labor because it's cheap. What's so addicting about paying an illegal citizen the same rate as anyone else?...

Some of you should watch the documentary "A Day Without a Mexican." It might make you think otherwise. Just a thought.

Thanks for that but there should have been a sequel called "A day without US Schools, Hospitals and Social Services that Illegals enjoy but don't pay taxes to support."

Do you think that will stop the 1800 people from getting other jobs? Not going to change anything.

Its going to change the way they do business. Its going to clean up a mess they have been dealing with for a while as the stock tumbled from its initial offering to a buck.

Maybe the nutty prof. will learn the company is responsible to its shareholders and not his eccentricities...Maybe.

Maybe its just a show.

All you need is a Social Secutiry Card to get a job , I can go to a corner right now in LA and buy one for fifty bucks..it will take about 3 or 4 months for the HR dept. to find out that its not a valid SS# then I would just go back down to the corner and buy another one. Ive worked with many , many illegal immigrants and they all paid taxes.....Sure there are some that are paid under the table , but very few. Ive seen the illegal immigrant issue used as a scape goat way to much here in Cali...and I'm a white dude!!(lol)

True, they may have paid taxes, I don't know. But I do know that a lot of them don't, it's just a fact.

No scape goating involved. I'm a White dude too, and this has nothing to do with race!

Millions of immigrants have come to the US and become legal citizens. Shot, all of our families were at one time (excluding Native Americans), and that's awesome!

I just don't have any tolerance for immigrants who come here, take up jobs, don't pay their taxes, and suck up social services. And even worse, refuse to learn English, and by doing so, suck up even more services from institutions such as schools who have to provide langue services.

I'm sorry, if you fall into even one of those categories (taxes or not) and your illegal, then you don't have a place here, period. I wouldn't go try to live in France without going through the proper steps and I would definitely try to learn the language, becacuse in France they don't care if you don't speak French!

Illegal is ILLEGAL, and the companies who exploit that cheaper labor are even more illegal.

Just curious, how do they vote if they are illegal?
