Default Picture in Illustrator - Help

I need help with a picture in Illustrator. Someone sent me a copy of their brochure, but I need to delete everything on it except the picture on there and just use that for a design for a t-shirt. I can't seem to do it. If anyone can help me, that would be great. Do I have to take it into photoshop first?

Open in Illustrator.

Delete all the text, leaving only the picture.

File>Export

Save it as a jpg (if that's the format you want)

The only problem is if the picture was only linked to the brochure file. Then you would have a very low resolution screen image to work with.

It sounds as if it is one whole picture. If that is the case then you need to use photoshop. If not, you need to see if there is a lock on the layer.

Use photoshop to "lift" the image out of the background. You can use the eraser tool, or the selection tool of your choice. Also you can use the extract feature too. I've used many of these techniques depending on the art at hand. Hope this helps.

For one, you wouldn't be able to select it. If there so then look at your Layers palette. You should see a little padlock icon there. Padlock.png
All you have to do is to click on it.

If, when you try to select the layer, it selects it as one whole box, then the whole thing is an image and you'll ned a Photo program to edit it. Hopefully it has good resolution for what you are doing.
