For those of you with websites, who uses models or who here takes pictures of the shirts themselves?
It seems like taking pics of the shirts is very common, just look at ANF or American Eagle.
I was going to setup up my site with a shirt template and the design on it, but it seems more modern now to use actual pictures of the shirts or get models.
Yeah, its one of those debates.... Either all product or shots of people wearing. I eventually want to transition to pictures of people wearing my shirts, for now I use just product shots. Also, it is good to know your market. If your heavy into music or some other scene, the pictures can help reinforce brand identity
This is something I'm debating with the guys I'm working with. I think sometimes when you have models it can look like you're making tees for a certain type of person to the exclusion of others. This can work for or against you. As you say ReThink Clothing, it depends on the audience.
I think we'll be starting with product shots also, then transition to models when we determine a good way to present them...and when we get some models...
hi.. I just join this forum and this is my first post. Lucky me I found my topic today.
My company ask me to hire a model... and deciding the models make me headache!
Previously I post this question in other forum too: Which of the following models is most attractive to you?
1. Blonde
2. African
3. Chinese/Japanese
4. European
5. Asian / Indian
Most of the feedbacks I got is, "all", or "as long he/she is attractive". This is not related to racism, but I would like to get some feedback, that down inside your heart, you think which of the models is most attractive?

Most of the companies I've talked to have said lifestyle (with models) photos TYPICALLY will sell better. This isn't necessarily true for everyone. I personally like seeing shirts on models, it shows how the garment fits, and usually a better representation of the color. It's up to you to decide if you will really be seeing returns on your investment. If you can, get a photographer that already has a contact list of models. I recently had to hire a photographer to photograph every single American Apparel style in their catalog. He specifically had models that he had worked with before which made it super easy for us (especially since they were free of charge!). We basically had to provide the contracts and he had did all the contact work with them.

There is no way for anyone to answer this question without looking racist - which makes sense since without knowing more about your brand there's no way to answer this question without being racist Point being, most people are smart enough not to answer such a loaded question, so don't expect much in the way of direct answers.
There are basically three approaches you can take with models.
1) Aspirational.
2) Identifying.
3) Intriguing.
In all three approaches you need to know who your typical target customer is.
Aspirational - this could be how your target customers see themselves, or something or someone they idolise, or how they'd like to be - what they aspire to.
Identifying - models reflecting your typical target customer, someone they can identify with.
Intriguing - this is where the word "exotic" gets thrown around. It's potentially dangerous territory (accusations of exploitation or insensitivity), but basically it's using someone who intentionally doesn't meet the first two criteria (dramatically), but someone whose otherness and visually striking appearance draws people in.
Based from our experience at rhetoric t-shrits, we've learned that men want to see the actual t-shirt while women prefer to see the t-shirt on someone else like a model. You can mix both. I agree use your friends, there is nothing better than real people.
Photography + hiring experienced models can make the difference in your sales, but also is super expensive, try doing it yourself first a low cost, and take it from there.
