Adding return postage on package invoice?

Default Adding return postage on package invoice?

I am looking at X-Cart as an e-commerce solution for my website. However, I could not find any info on their site about adding return postage to package invoices.

I would like to include an invoice/order history paper in all the packages I send out. On this invoice I would like to have a section at the bottom the customer can cut off and tape to the package in case of a return. The return postage would already be printed on the invoice so the customer doesn't have to go to the post
office.

Is this something X-cart can accommodate? Or is this something done in Paypal? Or something I do on USPS.com (would USPS only charge me if the electronic stamp is used?)

This is not a shopping cart feature. You can apply to the post office for a business reply permit. Then, postage is collected from you at the time the package is returned.

This way, only the permit itself is printed on your label and you won't be paying for postage unless it is used.

Paying for return postage is generous, by the way. It is typically not done, nor expected.

Another way to do it is to send a self addressed stamped return envelope to a customer when they tell you they need to return something.

Ok, I read about the business reply mail on USPS.com and that sounds exactly like what I'm looking for.

What I'm wondering now is how can I get this mailing barcode to print on the invoice created by my shopping cart (presumably x-cart). Has anyone done this?

X-cart allows you to insert images on your invoices and packing slips. You could simple create a jpg and insert it where you want.

Now, that being said, I am curious why you want to do this? Are you expecting so many returns that you feel you need it?

Here are my thoughts:

1. People will misuse it. And it will cost you a couple of bucks every time someone does.

2. It gives the impression to all of your customers that you have so many returns that you have to print return postage on every invoice. This negatively impacts buyer confidence.

As I mentioned in my prior post, instead of offering return postage to everyone, customers who need a return can contact you, and then you can email them a return label if the return is warranted.

Zappos offers free shipping both ways and it seems to have worked out for them.
