If the design has lots of colors, what is the best way to print on the T-shirts??

I was thinking to buy a heat press and go with heat transfers. But my design is basically my painting, so I don't really want to decrease the number of colors. But I like the idea about using transfer and having a heat press.
I got some transfer samples from 10 different places, but it seems they are good if you don't use so much colors...?!

I am really new to this, so any idea will be so helpful to me.

DTG can be best way i guess...let few experts replies though

DTG in low to medium quantities, screenprinting in large quantities.
