I personally do not wear full front image shirts, but I am starting to design tourist/funny image type of shirts, and wondering which types are more popular.
i personally print front shirts only but that is only because thats my market...
A friend of mine does a bunch of small chest emblem over the front pocket and then full on back but thats mainly for business. (landscaping, construction, etc etc.)
For novelty-type shirts, front center chest seems to be the most popular. If the tees are a little trendy or "hip" in one way or another (like skater shirts or similar) back prints work as well.
I'm wrestling with this topic myself at the moment.
I'm leaning towards just a front imprint and something on the sleeve. I went to the mall today to see what people were wearing and there were almost no back imprints on shirts.
Another thing: Ed Hardy prints almost only on the front and they have done a lot more market research than I have. I think Johnny Cupcakes is mainly front only also.
Just my opinion,

I supply alot of casinos, events and businesses with shirts and they almost always want a LC with back. The "funny" shirts or small orders I do alot of the time will just require a front print sometimes full sometime just a saying etc. It truly depends on you market...

I think it definitely depends on the demographic / shirt purpose.
Personally I almost never wear FLC/FB - the only exceptions are a couple of parody shirts.
On the other hand, if I wanted a shirt to advertise my business I would definitely use a back print. Although in that instance I would use full print on front (logo) and full print on back (contact info).
