I recently attended the NBM Show in Long Beach. One of the Brother representatives mentioned that DTG printing is equal in quality to screen printing. Is this statement true? or was he on something...

He's on something.

I don't know of any other print method with better quality or longevity than screen printing.

If you are a screen printer do a simple test. Take one of the designs you have screen printed and have a DTG print made with it. Now do some wash tests and compare.

sublimation is the best but only on light colors.

I thought so. I'm sure he wanted to boost their product. What a bummer.

I wish I had screen printing equipment. It might be a good idea to have one of my designs DTG'd and go from there.

Sort of. It's great on longevity, but on the other hand you're using an inkjet printer to print on polyester. Great for some applications, terrible for others.

I think he was probably stating his opinion (which might be biased because he sells DTG printers)

At the screen printing booths, they would probably tell you that screen printing is best.

Embroiderers will tell you that embroidery often outlasts the garment it's embellished on.

We all have our preferences

DTG printing is very good and I think when done right, it could be used for retail sales, but to say that it's "equal" to the quality of screen printing might be a stretch if both are done perfectly.
