Default USPS First Class - Printing labels online?

I have two questions.

• When shipping first class USPS is it necessary to ship the item as "irregular" since i'll be shipping in the tyvec envelopes?

• I notice on USPS.com it says you have to use their mailing envelopes. I've notice on here that many people talk about using the tyvec bags. Does this mean we do not have to use their mailing envelopes?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but i can seem to find it anywhere on the site.

Thanks everyone,
BlackSheep 78

Guess I'm confused, but you don't HAVE to use ANY of the USPS supplies to ship. USPS provides Priority envelopes and boxes for free and sells other envelopes/boxes, for convenience.

When I ship USPS, I use the PayPal multi-shipping option and use envelopes I've purchased. Some folks use a tyvek envelope, but any appropriate sized envelope works (as long as the weight is under 13 ozs).

USPS does not provide envelopes for first class shipping. Only for Priority and Express.

Use the large envelope rate for tyvecs unless your package is rigid, nonrectangular, or not uniformly thick. Otherwise you'll have to pay the package prices.

I think the USPS "Have to use our supplies" only refers to the Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes and Boxes if you want to pay the Flat Rate.

You can use anything to ship normal First Class, and even Priority Mail but you won't get the Flat Rate, you'll pay by weight and distance.

Are you sure amp? I thought it was irregular.

I thought irregular was anything not in a regular envelope, or in an envelope but to wide. There is a little plastic gauge that the envelope has to pass through for it to be thin enough. I think it has to do with the machines that automatically cancel/stamp the postage stamps.

I mailed out a bunch of imprinted pens in regular envelopes and they told me it was considered irregular.

when i ship via paypal i just click on the package or large envelope. i never put anything under irrigular. may i have been doing it wrong, but over 500 packages and still nothing wrong. maybe its just considered a package, ill have to do some more research on that one.

Another possibility is that since we are using digital postage they don't have to go through a canceling machine so it doesn't matter.

If it's not broke don't fix it.
