Re: Can u shrink Alternative shirts?? Alternative tends to produce mostly garment dyed shirts while American Apparel shirts are piece dyed. The difference (in the simplest terms possible) is that when American Apparel makes a green shirt, they produce green fabric, cut it, and sew it together - the fabric then wears out and the shirts tend to change with the more washing you do. When Alternative makes a green shirt, they order optic white "raw" fabric, cut it, sew it, and send it off to get the entire garment dyed green at once before it hits the shelves.
The dyeing process takes place at an extremely hot temperature and therefore shrinks the garment during the process to the proper spec (pre-shrunk). The main difference is that you can achieve a more "vintage" feel and look and add enzyme softeners and treatments to the fabric to make it feel more delicious. This affects the style and feel of a shirt, the costs to the consumer, and each company's operation strategy. |
